Monday June 7

More of the same. Although I see some improvements, they are incremental.

Had PT twice today. First did the foot/knee slide with much the same results as yesterday. Walked 65 yards. She told me to step heel first, apparently I was pointing my toes. Who knew I was so graceful! Then I laid on this bed and they put a bolster under my ankles, requiring me to make my knees bend until the heels hit the bed. The only good thing I can think of to say about this is that when it ended I got the good ice packs. You know, the gel ones that really form around your knee. Unlike these pseudo paper things they deliver to the beds. They are less than worthless.

Second round started with the foot/knee slide. It is so frustrating that the right knee goes so great with barely any pain. Then the left leg will barely move and hurts like hell. They put a ball between my knees and I pressed my thighs together. Walked another 65 feet and then did 3-4 stairs. I didn't actually count the mothers...I was too busy cursing them. Going up wasn't terrible, but coming down was just horrendous.

This therapist took the time to bend my left knee where she wanted it and showed me the movements which was helpful. I don't know that I can actually replicate it, but I have a better chance now.

Many thanks to mine brither for visiting me this evening. I got a bit emotional, but it was just the lift I needed at the end of the day. Well tomorrow's another day and I can't wait to see where the pt trail will take me.

Mom, I really wish I could make it up there again to visit, but I just can't swing it with school still in session. And by the time school is over you'll be home!

oh, seriously don't worry about it! I really enjoyed the visit on Friday, not to mention the encouragement you keep posting to me. I have gone back and reread posts that were encouraging or comforting (especially when I feel sorry for myself)multiple times. i love you!

Hi sweetheart,
I can't sleep so thought I'd see how you were doing by reading your blog. Sounds like you're doing great! So much better than I expected, you have some pretty significant flexion already and that's impressive. Now if the pain control could be worked out you'd be golden! I know just getting the meds from the nurses can be an issue...trust me I be one...but hopefully that will improve for you as your pain decreases. Did I read correctly? Home Thursday? Thats incredible I hope hospital bed and potty chair because I don't see you doing all those stairs at the house as of yet...but as well as you're doing I could be wrong. Keep up the excellent work.
Love you.

Tues~ Hi Donna~ I just read your blog. Oh my! Talk about 'one step at a time'! I'm sure you know the meaning of that!

Remember, you will look back at this and be even more grateful for medical miracles.

I'm thinking of you everyday and am
praying for you every morning when I wake up.

Hang in there!

Donna M~

P.S. How's the food?? You need your strength!

Thanks, Donna, I sure do appreciate your thoughts and prayers. You have been so kind. It really is learning to do things all over again and hoping it doesn't hurt forever. My friend Diane came down for the day today. She went to one of the physical therapy sessions and the occupational therapy hours with me. She said she was tired just watching me!
